Coal Lobby Warns Wind Farms May Blow Earth Off Orbit
This is a satirical news video from the Onion which asks the question ‘Could wind turbines blow the earth off its orbit?’ Responses from the coal lobbyist in this video argue that ‘people could literally be blown right off the face of the earth’ and later on argues that ‘Solar energy is sucking our sun dry’. These arguments, while hilarious, also reflect the nature of the coal lobbyists in their effort to protect the coal industry regardless of it’s environmental downfalls. This video embodies the technocentric nature of the coal industry in the belief that coal is still a viable option and climate change, if indeed it is real, can be solved by technological means. Coal lobbyists argue that competing energy sources could harm the economy and jobs worldwide, however if our resources are exhausted there will be no jobs for anyone in the future.
