Week 3: Theorising Society and the Environment; What's in jeopardy, the climate or our freedom?
This article is from the ABC and is a speech by the President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus. In this article Klaus attacks the climate change agenda as a group of people who are trying to control the freedom of people. He mentions that these are the same people who warned of ‘mass poverty and the inevitability of billions of people starving’ as if these are not significant and related problems we are facing. For Klaus, there is no environmental problem, only a problem with people trying to control our livelihood in the name of cliamte change. Klaus claims hat the scientific counter arguments are very strong without expressing any of these. Klaus then goes on to examine in detail how it is not economically sound to address Climate Change. This clearly shows a conflict of interest from the leader of a country who would have to make economic changes if he were to address these issues.
